Introduction
The Couples San Souci Resort located in Ocho Rios, Jamaica consists of 150 rooms and suites on 35 acres. Couples San Souci is an all-inclusive resort with 4 restaurants and 6 bars.
On August 19, 2007 Hurricane Dean passed over the island of Jamaica. The dangerous category four storm pummeled Jamaica with high winds and rain for most of the day.
The hurricane which packed top winds of 145 miles as its raked the country's south coast. Dean caused 3 deaths and over $1B USD in damage.
This report will both attempt to give you insight into the what a normal day at Couples Sans Souci is like but also tell you about a couple of very abnormal days. You just might learn more about the resort personnel and the company in general by how they handle the abnormal days.
It is important to remind everyone reading this that all resorts in Jamaica offer reduced pricing during hurricane season and that everyone, including myself, that takes advantages of this reduced pricing is in fact acknowledging and accepting a certain amount of risk in doing so. I freely chose to book a trip during this season as I have done in the past and I will continue to do so in the future; the discounts are too large to ignore and in most cases the weather and mother nature will cooperate.
For this particular trip I also chose to depart for Jamaica at a time when I knew that a hurricane however distant was in fact on a projected course for Jamaica. I accept full responsibility for this decision as it was mine alone.
